Biotechnology (Master)
- Field of study: biotechnology
- Form of study: Full-time
- Degree of study: 2., master's
- Length of study: 2 years
- Language of instruction: english
At the time of completion, students of the Biotechnology study programme have the following theoretical knowledge, practical skills and abilities:
Acquire adequate knowledge of the basic disciplines of science, especially biotechnology, biology and chemistry, as well as their frontier areas. Given the fact that the programme fits into the field of study Biotechnology, it is mainly subjects emphasising biotechnological aspects. A significant part of the content of the study, alongside the classical chemistry and biology subjects, is the emphasis on.
Biotechnological disciplines such as industrial biotechnology, nanobiotechnology, molecular biotechnology, but also modern biological disciplines that are the basis for modern biotechnology, such as molecular biology techniques, instrumental methods of analysis, biofuels and products from renewable sources, novel and functional foods, etc.
Links to both ecological and environmental disciplines and subjects involving sustainable development issues in close relation to regional specificities.
With a view to the broader applicability of the graduate in practice, the natural science and technology basis of the study is complemented by selected legislative, ethical and managerial disciplines. At the same time, the study in the second degree creates prerequisites for the continuation in the third degree of study.
At the time of graduation, students of the Biotechnology study programme have the following theoretical knowledge, practical skills and abilities:
They acquire habits for defining scientific hypotheses, preparing projects (experimental) for their verification, experimental solutions, defining outputs and their characterization, presentation, defence and implementation (also in practice).
Graduates of the Master's degree have theoretical knowledge of the structures of prokaryotic and eukaryotic biological systems and the nature of the processes (physicochemical, biochemical and physiological) taking place in them as well as the mechanisms of their regulation. They gain an overview of these and know how to apply them in practice. They learn about methods of intervention in the genome of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, principles of genetic modification of organisms, methods of characterising genetic changes and gain an overview of the use of genetically modified organisms in various fields of practice.
They are able to carry out the preparation of biological systems for their practical use and independently solve (manage) partial operations related to their targeted use in the agro-food, pharmaceutical-medical and chemical-environmental fields.
They have sufficient theoretical knowledge and practical experience necessary to perform laboratory control and evaluation of the data obtained and can communicate with an equivalent level of management.
They possess knowledge of the economic, legal, ethical and environmental aspects of biotechnology that enables them to apply for mid-level functional activities in the scientific research, production and business spheres.
The graduate of the study programme is a professional who finds employment in various areas of social practice. He/she acquires knowledge of biotechnology and related fields (especially biological, chemical, genetic and their specialisations) underlying the development of biotechnology, especially in the areas of white, green and red biotechnology. They are able to engage in research, development and innovation, particularly in industry, agriculture, health, the environment, energy, and to apply their knowledge directly in production practice in these areas.
are able to investigate biomolecules and biological systems, as well as to use them practically
are able to independently manage individual operations related to their targeted use in the agri-food, pharmaceutical-medical and chemical-environmental fields, as well as in the industrial use of renewable raw materials
have sufficient theoretical knowledge and practical experience to carry out both laboratory and production activities and to evaluate the data obtained and to communicate with an equivalent level of management
they also have knowledge of the economic, legal, ethical and environmental aspects of biotechnology, which enables them to apply themselves at the middle level of functional activities in scientific research, but also in the production and business sphere.

Conditions of admission for the DAILY form of study.
Requirements for applicants, method of selection and recommended personal qualities
Number of students admitted to the study programme: 30
The basic condition for admission to the study programme of the second degree is the completion of the study programme of the first degree (according to Section 56(2) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts).
The admission procedure takes place without an entrance examination.
Admission to the chosen study programme takes into account whether the applicant has completed a study programme at the Faculty of Physical Education at the UCM in Trnava or at another higher education institution of a related field of study. For admission to the master's study programme, the result of the bachelor's study is evaluated. In the case of applicants from other faculties and having completed a bachelor's degree in related fields, the composition of the courses taken in the first cycle of study is also evaluated. In the case of a bachelor's degree in related fields, the FPV Admissions Committee may require entrance examinations.
