How do you study abroad? University of Madeira

Patrícia Martáková, a second year student of Tourism and Hotel Management at the Institute of Management, decided to go on Erasmus to Portugal, where she also studied hotel management.

"I decided to go on mobility because I want to improve my language skills, gain international experience and discover a new culture," says Patrícia. Her goal was to become more independent and to enrich herself academically and personally.

Patricia describes that mobility has given her a unique opportunity to broaden her horizons. "It taught me how to work in an international team and improved my communication in English," she adds.

In addition to education, her studies in Madeira proved to be a significant step in her personal development. "It helped me to become independent, overcome my fear of the unknown and push my boundaries," she says. Patricia recommends the Universidad da Madeira to other students. "The university provides a very high quality education, which is mainly focused on practice, as well as a friendly environment and a variety of courses on offer," she says with enthusiasm.

One of her best experiences was surfing in the Atlantic Ocean. "It was my first time trying surfing, but definitely not my last. It was a 3-hour lesson with an instructor," she recalls. In Madeira, she was particularly surprised to find that students under 23 get free bus transport. After the hassle of arranging a bus pass, Patricia finally enjoyed the daily transport.

Madeira offers many activities that make studying fun. "There is definitely no boredom on the island, as Madeira offers a lot of natural beauty where you can go hiking," Patrícia concludes with a smile.
