New opportunities in the Baltic University Programme: symposium, innovation and grant support

As part of our membership in the Baltic University Programme (BUP), students and academics of our University can participate in a variety of prestigious activities and programmes. Among the most important upcoming events is the BUP Symposium, which will take place in Uppsala, Sweden, in November 2025 and will address issues of security and resilience in the Baltic Sea Region in the context of environmental, political, social and economic challenges. In addition, the Estonian BUP Presidency is organising a three-day Blue Horizon innovation event focusing on solutions for the blue economy, and a BUP Mobility Grant is available for young researchers to support their scientific activities in the region. The BUP PhD Award, given for outstanding dissertations, is also a major award.

 

BUP Symposium

The BUP Symposium is an event where academic colleagues from BUP participating universities can present their latest research, initiate new discussions and promote future collaborations. The theme of the event is "Strengthening Security and Resilience in the Baltic Sea Region - Environmental, Political, Social and Economic Shocks and Crises". The symposium will take place in Uppsala, Sweden, 26-28 November 2025.

The deadline for abstract submission is 16 May 2025.

Three-day innovation event "Blue Horizon"

Estonian Business School (EBS) invites colleagues to participate in the "Blue Horizon" event , a three-day innovation meeting focused on creating solutions for the blue economy. This event is part of the Estonian BUP Presidency, and BUP will cover the participation fee for 25 colleagues from participating universities.

The deadline for applications is 31 March 2025.

BUP Mobility Grant

The aim of the BUP Mobility Grant is to support and develop cooperation between young researchers in the Baltic Sea Region and BUP participating universities. The grant covers travel and accommodation costs for the research project, with a maximum support of EUR 3 000.

The deadline for applications is 30 April 2025.

BUP PhD Award

This prize is awarded to the authors of the highest quality PhD theses defended at BUP participating universities. The winners will receive an award in the form of a diploma and financial support of up to EUR 1 000 to attend a scientific conference or publish in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

The deadline for nominations is 25 May 2025.
