Our colleague Šarlota Kaňuková from the Faculty of Natural Sciences was awarded the prestigious Prize for Science and Technology 2024

On 15 November 2024, the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport and the Centre for Scientific and Technical Information of the Slovak Republic presented the prestigious Science and Technology Award to Šarlota Kaňuková, PhD, in the category of Personality of Science and Technology under 35 years of age. This important, national prize is awarded to young, talented scientists who have demonstrated exceptional potential early in their scientific careers.
RNDr. Šarlota Kaňuková, PhD., is a graduate of all three degrees of biotechnology studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of our university, where she is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Biotechnology.
In his work he combines scientific activity with the application of its results in practice and also with the pedagogical education of our students of natural sciences. Since the beginning of his scientific career, he has specialized in plant biotechnology, especially in vitro techniques for the cultivation of plant cells, tissues and organs, with a focus on the production of cell biomass and secondary metabolites.
She has been recognized for her unique results in inducing the formation and establishment of plant stem cell lines and in the production of secondary metabolites in vitro. Her knowledge, skills and innovative approaches to her work represent a key potential for the development of plant biotechnology and cellular and molecular agriculture. In addition to this award, she has already received several awards for her work, including the BioInnovation Award 2024 and Audience Award 2024 from the Lifbee Academy, the CEE Startup Voucher 2024 from the CEE Startup Network, and repeatedly the Slovak Academy of Agricultural Sciences Award for Young Scientists for the best scientific work (2020, 2022, 2023). She is one of the top six finalists of the EIT Manufacturing RIS LEADERS Competition 2024.
