Published: 6.11.2024

We have joined the Alliance for Science, Education and Innovation in Modern Agriculture between China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe to expand the range of our interdisciplinary and intersectoral partnerships.

A major agricultural conference hosted by Shandong Agricultural University was held in Yantai, China, from 15 to 17 October 2024. The University of St. Cyril and Methodius (UCM) was represented at the event, which also included the inaugural meeting of the Alliance for Modern Agricultural Science, Education and Innovation, by the Vice-Rector for Science and Research, Prof. Ildikó Matušíková.

During the Academic Forum, representatives from China and Central and Eastern European countries presented papers on topics key to sustainable agriculture, such as smart agriculture, food safety, nutrition and health, as well as science and technology innovation. Prof. Matušíková stressed the readiness of the University of St. Cyril and Methodius to support these goals through research on bio and environmental technologies, including the development of resistant plant varieties and green solutions such as phytoremediation, biofortification and bioplastics. It has also offered to collaborate with our expertise in consumer behaviour research, disseminating important messages about environmental benefits, developing innovative, sustainable farming systems and promoting eco-tourism.

The formation of the Alliance, initiated by Shandong Agricultural University, creates an open and international platform that aims to strengthen educational, scientific and technological cooperation between China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. This alliance represents a promising interdisciplinary and intersectoral partnership for UCM that will foster the development of modern agricultural and environmental solutions, strengthen research and enable joint growth in sustainable development.

The event confirmed UCM's commitment to continue promoting innovation and international collaboration as an institution that contributes with its comprehensive portfolio to the development of sustainable agricultural solutions in an international context.
