German language and culture in professional communication (Mgr.)

1. Knowledge:
The graduate is familiar with systematic knowledge of linguistic disciplines such as stylistics of the German language, text linguistics, phraseology of the German language, paremiology, contrastive linguistics, varieties of the German language. At the same time, he has knowledge of the history of German culture and literature, literary-led and cultural-scientific methodology. He knows the methods and principles of professional translation, the techniques and procedures of interpreting in its consecutive and simultaneous form.
2. Skills:
The graduate masters the studied German language in oral and written interaction. He/she is competent to independently formulate a scientific problem, to think relationally and analytically in the problems of the disciplines of the field of study, such as e.g. contrastive linguistics, stylistics, text linguistics, phraseology and with special interdisciplinary overlaps in the field of cultural studies and other fields (psychology, law, technology, sociology, economics, marketing and information technology) within the framework of professional communication. He knows how to search for and formulate professional topics and tasks, consider recommendations, propose optimal solutions and ensure research on theoretical problems and practical aspects related to the German language, linguistics, literature and culture. He/she is able to propose and choose appropriate procedures and implement them in the solution of professional issues, including the design of projects.
3. Professional competences:
The graduate masters translation strategies and procedures and knows how to apply them in practice, can work with terminological resources, corpora and databases. (can work with computer programs supporting translation and is also familiar with post-editing of texts.) Is ready to conduct research with a high degree of creativity and independence and to evaluate its results with the professional use of information and communication technologies. He is competent to professionally present the results of his own scientific observations, analyses, interpretations and generalizations before the professional community in the German language. Can clearly and convincingly promote research results to a wider cultural public.
4. Transferable competences:
The graduate demonstrates a high degree of work independence and foresight in familiar and unfamiliar environments as a specialist in the linguistic, geopolitical and ethnocultural area of the German-speaking area in a dynamically changing sociocultural environment. Knows the legal and ethical aspects of professions using linguistic interactions. He has developed innovative and creative thinking and a well-established attitude-value area.
The graduate finds employment in practice as:
- a cultural worker in higher territorial units and an employee of the organization of state administration and self-government (coordinator in contact with foreign clients in the framework of the development of cultural and economic relations with foreign countries)
- in the preparation of international cooperation projects within the framework of small and medium-sized businesses
- worker in international companies
- in tourism
- in various cultural institutions
- in the media and in other artistic and creative industries.

Note
When registering the application electronically:
- the applicant is obliged to save the application uploaded in AIS (electronic application) (the status of the application "registered" is not sufficient,
- we recommend using the electronic student book. Applicants who will graduate in the academic year 2024, submit a summary of grades for the 1st to 3rd year (4-year study), or for the 2nd to 4th year (5-year study). The report card from the last year and the matriculation certificate must be delivered additionally by post to the study department.
- in the event that the applicant does not have the possibility to use the electronic student book, it is necessary to send certified copies of the documents by post to the study department,
- in the attachment of the electronic application, the applicant uploads a CV and confirmation of payment of the fee for the admission procedure.
- the applicant, who graduated before 2024, delivers to the Study Department (in person or by post) certified copies of the report cards for the 1st to 4th year (4-year study), or for the 2nd to 5th year (5-year study) together with the school leaving certificate.
When applying in writing:
- the application form together with all mandatory attachments must be sent by post to the address: Study Department FF UCM, Nám. J. Herdu 2, 917 01 Trnava, or hand it in at the post office,
- applicants who graduate in the academic year 2024 send the report card from the last year of study and the matriculation certificate additionally by mail.

The applicant is obliged to submit a decision on the recognition of a document on education obtained outside the territory of the Slovak Republic no later than the day of registration.

Information for international applicants to download
Knowledge of the Slovak language is required for the study of all study programs - including the study of foreign languages. Foreign students who do not have a high school diploma in the Slovak language or a university diploma from a Slovak university must take a language exam.
This condition does not apply to students with Czech citizenship.
It is necessary to register for the language exam in the online form no later than August 20, 2024.
Владение словацким языком требуется для всех учебных программ – включая иностранные языки. Для иностранных студентов, которые не подтверждают свой аттестат зрелости по словацкому языку или университетский диплом словацкого университета, сдача экзамена по словацкому языку является обязательной.
Это условие не распространяется на студентов с чешским гражданством.
Заявление о сдаче экзамена по словацкому языку должно быть подано в онлайн-форме не позднее 20 августа 2024 года.
