Knowledge:
The graduate knows and can select specific scientific methods for basic and applied research in general and experimental psychology, educational, counseling, and school psychology, clinical psychology, and social and occupational psychology. He/she has extensive expertise in several areas of his/her field of study, which serves as a basis for conducting research and development and generating new knowledge in the field of psychology.
Skills:
The graduate is able to formulate new hypotheses and strategies for further research and development in psychology. The student will apply his/her own findings from his/her theoretical analysis and from his/her comprehensive scientific research to solve problems in the areas of his/her field of study. He/she has a working knowledge of the chosen research methods and uses them in the search for new technologies, technical details and important interactive system links. Can design, validate, and implement new research and work practices based on their outputs and findings.
Competencies:
The graduate is characterized by independent, critical and analytical thinking, which he/she applies in changing conditions. He/she independently presents the results of research and development to the professional community in the Slovak Republic and abroad. Considers social, scientific and ethical aspects in formulating research objectives and interpreting research results. Can determine the focus of research and coordinate the research, conceptual and analytical work of experts in the relevant scientific field.
In addition to the above knowledge and skills related to preparation for the profession of psychologist, the graduate acquires a number of transferable competences: (e.g. communication skills, mathematical skills, organisational skills, digital skills, critical thinking, timemanagement, working under supervision, group work, searching for and critically selecting information, etc.).
The College indicates the occupations for which the graduate is prepared at the time of graduation and the potential of the study programme in terms of graduate employability. Graduates of the psychology major have the opportunity to be employed (in some cases after obtaining the necessary certificate related to the specialization or certified activity) in a variety of positions, such as
- assistant,
- Supervisor/supervised worker,
- independent worker, especially in the field of:
- health and social care - counselling psychologist, clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, forensic psychologist, social counselling psychologist;
- education and training - educational psychologist, school psychologist, career counsellor;
- organisation and work - occupational psychologist, human resources specialist.
- other areas such as police forces, military, transport, sport, communication, marketing, science and research.
- As a graduate of the third level of higher education in the field, he/she can carry out scientific and pedagogical activities in educational institutions, academies of science, and in the private sphere.
