General characteristics of the professional profile of a graduate of the study programme Russian Language and Culture in Professional Communication The PhD programme in Russian Language and Culture in Professional Communication prepares its graduates as specialistsRussian specialists sufficiently equipped for independent professional practice, linguistically, historically, culturally or socially oriented scientific research, but also as specialists who, thanks to their knowledge, are able to work in the field of pedagogical practice, in cultural institutions, industrial enterprises, in tourism, as translators, interpreters, or even in journalism or diplomatic services. In view of this, they are equipped with an extensive complex of knowledge, skills and professional competences at the end of their doctoral studies, which organically develop the knowledge, skills and professional competences acquired during their studies in the 1st and 2nd cycle of higher education throughout the entire period of doctoral studies. The learning outcomes are defined in the following categories:

Knowledge:

The knowledge profile of the graduate of the PhD programme Russian Language and Culture in Professional Communication is based on a broad common foundation and on a narrower specialisation, which the student is mainly engaged in in the 2nd and 3rd year of study and within which he/she writes his/her dissertation. The basic knowledge competences of the PhD graduate of this programme include an excellent command of the Russian language in both written and spoken form. The graduate has a broad vocabulary in the humanities, is proficient in professional terminology, is able to speak in professional forums, publish professionally oriented texts (reviews, articles, monographs, etc.), is able to translate and interpret at the highest professional level, and at the same time is able to continuously add to his/her professional vocabulary. In addition, the graduate is equipped with a broad knowledge base of the realities of Russia and the Eastern Slavs in general (Ukraine, Belarus), especially the realities of geography, history, culture, industry and Slovak-Russian contacts in their historical development. Graduates of the PhD programme Russian Language and Culture in Professional Communication have knowledge in the field of methodology of scientific research, which they can apply in general as well as in one of the two specialisations: either in a narrower linguistic orientation or in a literary and cultural orientation. In the case of the narrower linguistic orientation, the graduate is equipped with highly specialized knowledge of Russian grammar, especially morphology, syntax, lexicology, phraseology and media linguistics. He/she is proficient in this field, knows the current trends in scientific research in Russian, Slovak and international contexts. A graduate of the PhD programme of this programme, aiming at a literary and cultural orientation, is a specialist in the history and theory of Russian literature, has a broad knowledge base focused on Russian cultural history (music, painting, sculpture, folklore, ...), on Russian history, in the context of the history of Slovakia and the Slavic countries, as well as European history. Graduates of both specialisations are interculturally oriented in their knowledge, they are prepared for independent professional work, for team professional projects in the phase of their preparation and solution, and they have sufficient knowledge predisposing them to the popularisation of professional work and its results.

Skills:

Graduates of the PhD programme Russian Language and Culture in Professional Communication are experts in intercultural communication, both in its synchronic and diachronic aspects. His/her basic skills include the ability to distinguish the specifics of the Russian national mentality, to approach professional comparative studies with sensitivity and knowledge of these specifics, and to use his/her in-depth knowledge to identify phenomena that could enhance or, on the contrary, hinder or completely prevent intercultural communication. In his/her professional activity, a graduate of the doctoral studies of this programme is able to actively combine knowledge of Russian realities with the Slovak and European context and dynamically confront them with the realities of the native culture, to participate in the development of Slovak-Russian contacts, to independently establish and maintain them, and to influence his/her surroundings and the public. The graduate is able and willing to share his/her knowledge with others, can be a good organizer of intercultural events and actively participate in the development of especially Slovak-Russian scientific, cultural and business relations. Within the scope of his/her activity, he/she actively follows professional, cultural and linguistic developments in the Russian-speaking environment, communicates them to the wider public and is able to act as an interpreter, translator and reviewer. As a professional, a graduate of the PhD programme in Russian Language and Culture in Professional Communication is able to develop the acquired professional knowledge through his/her own research activities, to participate in comparative research and to initiate it himself/herself. The graduate of this programme is able to transfer his/her knowledge and the results of his/her professional work to pedagogical and broader educational work.
