Study for a PhD at UCM

Choose your field of study
Choose your field of study within the degree programmes offered by the faculties.
You can study full-time or part-time. There is a fee for external study.
Choose the focus of your dissertation
If you have thought about where you want to direct your research, you can also propose your dissertation topic yourself (usually well in advance, at least 1 year before the admission procedure), in agreement with your supervisor.

Make contact with the Science Department and the supervisor
It certainly doesn't hurt to look up the contacts of the relevant faculties and get in touch with the Science Department at the faculty, where you can ask additional questions and they can certainly help guide you through the whole admissions process.
We recommend that you write directly to the thesis supervisor who wrote the topic and meet with them during the consultation hours to go over your research ambitions for your chosen topic together.
Apply to study
Once you know everything, submit your online application.
Be sure to fill in all the necessary details and information and attach any attachments. As part of the application, you should also attach your dissertation project, which is an integral part of every PhD application. It is up to each faculty to determine what the project should look like.

The fee for the admission procedure is also set by the faculties themselves.
Complete the admission procedure
Prepare for the entrance exams, which are usually in the form of a personal interview.
Be prepared to demonstrate your skills and knowledge in areas relevant to your field of study. The interview includes a defence of your dissertation project. The interview usually lasts 30 minutes.
After a successful personal interview, come and enrol
After you have successfully completed the admissions process - through a personal interview and have been admitted, come and enrol in person at our university. Dates will be announced on the website and information will also be sent to you in the mail. We look forward to welcoming you to our campus!
What if the entrance exams don't work out
We know that admissions can sometimes be difficult, but don't despair. If you fail, you still have a chance to study at UCM. Try to work on your dissertation project and apply again next year.
