A graduate of the 1st degree of higher education in the Slovak language and literature teaching program (combined) is primarily prepared to successfully continue studying this field at the 2nd degree (Mgr.) of higher education. He/she is well-versed in the field of his/her subject specialization and has insight into the wider context of pedagogy, education and training and has mastered information literacy and communication skills. He is also able to orientate himself in the organizational conditions of institutional education in Slovakia, therefore he can work especially in the supportive components of institutional education.
Learning outcomes:
1. Knowledge:
From the point of view of acquiring knowledge, the graduate of the 1st degree of the Slovak language and literature teaching program (in combination) will acquire a set of basic knowledge about the language and literary disciplines so that he/she can easily perceive terminology and specialized interpretations in the following years of study. He acquires systematic knowledge of synchronic linguistics, mastering the regularities of the sound, orthographic and morphological, lexical and syntactic level of the Slovak language. In addition, they will become familiar with generally valid and generally applicable knowledge from general linguistics and language culture. He will acquire basic knowledge in the field of diachronic linguistics, understand essential facts, principles and theories that apply to the Slovak language and its communicative function from the point of view of historical development. In the literary component, the graduate will gain knowledge about the history and development of national literature and its characteristic manifestations in individual periods from the Middle Ages to the first half of the 20th century, against the background of the basic development tendencies of world literature. Through special study subjects, students are also provided with information from world literature, literary theory and poetics and the aesthetics of a literary text. He can handle this knowledge and skills as a product of scientific activity, and in this context he can apply them in connection with the educational activity of a qualified teacher. After completing the study, the student controls the terminological system of descriptive linguistics at such a level that he/she is able to accept the theoretical knowledge of contemporary linguistics and apply them in practice, he/she will gain an adequate and sufficient view of the theory of literature and the history of Slovak literature in its pluralistic form and continuous development , has basic knowledge of the methodology of literary science and the interpretation of a literary text.
2. Acquired skills:
The graduate is able to apply knowledge of linguistics and literature in various activities in the sphere of art and culture, can flexibly adapt his professional knowledge to the changing conditions of practice, can be sensitive to the relationship between language and culture, skillfully works with information, familiarizes with the methodology and basic tools for processing primary and secondary literature.
3. Professional competences:
After completing the study program, the graduate is able to perform the activities of the future profession of teacher, assistant teacher, editor, language proofreader, cultural and educational worker. During his studies, he acquires a curriculum of knowledge from subject specialization and teaching basis and didactics. The study purposefully prepares students for occupations requiring professional knowledge of the Slovak language in various communication situations of social practice. He controls the basic content of the disciplines of his specialization, the principles of its structure, he is familiar with the methodology of producing the content of the study program and its wider cultural and social contexts. He/she is able to apply knowledge of linguistics and literature in school practice and in various activities in the sphere of art and culture, can flexibly adapt his professional knowledge to changing conditions of practice, knows how to communicate effectively at the level of a work team as well as at the level of student groups. He can handle this knowledge and skills as a product of scientific activity, and in this context he can apply them in connection with the educational activity of a qualified teacher.
4. Transferable competences:
The graduate will improve his/her communication skills in his/her mother tongue, in both written and oral speech, will acquire the skills to work with dictionary and codification manuals, can communicate effectively at the level of a work team as well as at the level of student groups. He will improve his presentation and rhetorical skills. Through his own reading experience and a comparative approach to the literary text, he will acquire a confrontational and receptive attitude towards national literature and foreign literature. By knowing and interpreting artistic texts, a competent student will approach it as one of the important components of national literature, and at the same time learn to identify and define the values of works of literature for children and youth, which he can practically use when forming his own value system and the value system of pupils in educational practice. - educational process in schools. Graduates will acquire organizational skills, digital skills, improve their creativity. General characteristics of the professional profile of a graduate of the teaching foundation: In the bachelor's degree of education, two basic educational goals are identified: 1. To qualitatively prepare the graduate of the study program teaching Slovak language and literature (in combination) for continuation in master's studies. According to Act no. 138/2019 Coll. on pedagogical employees and professional employees and on the amendment and addition of certain laws §11, the required level of education for elementary school teachers and secondary school teachers is at least a second-level university education. 2. Adequately prepare the graduate for the profession of teaching assistant.
Profile of a graduate of a bachelor's degree in education aimed at teaching assistant:
A graduate in the position of pedagogical assistant can, according to the requirements of a teacher, educator or master of vocational education and in cooperation with professional employees, create equality of opportunities in education and training, help a child, pupil or a group of children or pupils in overcoming architectural, informational, linguistic, health, social or cultural barriers.
Education outcomes in categories:
1. Knowledge: the graduate will master the knowledge of pedagogical and psychological disciplines focused on individual work with a student or a group of students with specific educational needs.
2. Skills: under the guidance of a teacher, a graduate can participate in the implementation of educational activities directly in the school environment, independently perform less demanding and auxiliary work in the educational process.
3. Professional competences: the graduate will have mainly developed competences - to identify the developmental and individual characteristics of the pupil, to identify the psychological and social factors of the pupil's learning, to identify the socio-cultural context of the pupil's development, to implement methods of working with pupils with specific educational needs, to plan and realize their professional growth and self-development, cooperate effectively with other professionals, identify with the professional role and the school.
4. Transferable competences: the graduate will have developed communication skills, organizational skills, digital skills, creativity, interpersonal skills, mentoring skills, metacognitive skills and reasoning in context, work in and with a team, the ability to handle stressful situations and obstacles, the ability manage stressful situations and obstacles, the ability to adapt to changed circumstances and the ability to work in an intercultural environment.

When registering the application electronically:
- the applicant is obliged to save the application uploaded in AIS (electronic application) (the status of the application "registered" is not sufficient,
- we recommend using the electronic student book. Applicants who will graduate in the academic year 2024, submit a list of grades for the 1st to 3rd year (4-year study), or for the 2nd to 4th year (5-year study). The report card from the last year and the matriculation certificate must be delivered additionally by post to the study department.
- in case the applicant does not have the possibility to use the electronic student book, it is necessary to send certified copies of the documents by post to the study department,
in the attachment of the electronic application, the applicant uploads a CV and confirmation of payment of the fee for the admission procedure. - the applicant, who graduated before 2024, will deliver to the Study Department (in person or by post) certified copies of the report cards for the 1st to 4th year (4-year study), or for the 2nd to 5th year (5-year study) together with the school leaving certificate.

The applicant is obliged to submit a decision on the recognition of a document on education obtained outside the territory of the Slovak Republic no later than the day of registration.

Information for international applicants to download
For the study of all study programs - including the study of foreign languages - knowledge of the Slovak language is required. Foreign students who do not have a high school diploma in the Slovak language or a university diploma from a Slovak university must take a language exam.
This condition does not apply to students with Czech citizenship.
It is necessary to register for the language exam in the online form no later than August 20, 2024.
Владение словацким языком требуется для всех учебных программ – включая иностранные языки. Для иностранных студентов, которые не подтверждают свой аттестат зрелости по словацкому языку или университетский диплом словацкого университета, сдача экзамена по словацкому языку является обязательной.
