Student teaching in the mass media communication study program at the master's level of study focuses on the development and deepening of independent professional thinking in the intentions of the key areas of the media and communication studies field of study, in direct connection with the bachelor's degree. The graduate deepens existing knowledge about the latest findings, hypotheses, concepts, problems and unresolved questions in the field of media and communication studies with a special focus on mass media communication. He can creatively solve problems, tasks and assignments independently as well as collectively, and comprehensively solve a problem using practical skills, even in a wider context. He is also able to develop his knowledge in various creative processes and apply them within specific assignments and requirements. He has the competence to design, implement and adequately evaluate media research, which will bring valid and relevant information necessary for further work.
In the scope of acquiring theoretical knowledge, the interdisciplinary nature of the field of study is emphasized, but also specialization in selected problems of broad-spectrum media practice, new requirements related to the development of digital media and content-formal aspects of working with multimedia platforms. Extended and deepened knowledge in the field of media philosophy, mass and media culture, radio and television journalism, media language and narrative in the media, media research, production and distribution of media work and media marketing is applied. The graduate is familiar with media procedures and communication strategies, knows basic and advanced production processes and knows how to adequately apply them in practice.
Depending on the student's individually chosen orientation to different subject areas, during the master's degree, thanks to the offer of mandatory optional and optional subjects, each person can specialize in selected areas of media communication. It can therefore be applied in print, radio, television, agency journalism, a film production or distribution company or a media agency. He is aware of media and information competences and the principles of public presentation of various types of media communications.
The student gains practical experience in designing, preparing, producing, presenting and interpreting media products. The acquisition of competences in the areas of scientific research and in the creation of media, multimedia, marketing and artistic communications is supported. Special attention is paid to the study of communication techniques and personal presentation. The student implements the acquired theoretical knowledge, skills and competences in the process of creating a diploma thesis. Graduates of the master's degree of the mass media communication study program will be employed in creative and managerial positions in the field of media communication, in public and commercial media, media agencies and in the communication departments of companies and institutions.
a) Theoretical knowledge
The interdisciplinary nature of the field of study is reflected in the scope of acquiring theoretical knowledge, but also the specialization of the future graduate on selected problems of broad-spectrum media practice. A graduate of the master's degree of the mass media communication study program independently discusses expanded and deepened knowledge in the field of media philosophy, mass and media culture, radio and television journalism, media language and narrative in the media, media research, production and distribution of media work, media and communication strategies and media marketing. He knows how to apply individual knowledge in practice in order to anticipate the expectations of media audiences and apply a technologically and ideologically progressive approach to the production of media content tied to the need to master the principles of working with virtual reality and artificial intelligence tools. The graduate orients himself/herself in media procedures, knows basic and advanced creative processes and knows how to apply them adequately. The graduate can analyze and evaluate problems in media institutions and companies, work in communication departments in the commercial and non-commercial sphere, and propose complex media and communication solutions. Within the compulsory optional subjects, one can specialize in selected areas of (mass) media communication: print, radio, television, agency journalism, film production and distribution, media competences. Special attention is paid to the improvement and refinement of communication techniques, the interpretation of media communications and the personal presentation of an individual in the context of the media market.
b) Practical abilities and skills
Graduate of the master's degree of the mass media communication study program:
- master the theories, concepts, knowledge and discourses in the field of media and communication studies with special emphasis on (mass) media communication,
- controls managerial and practical work in various positions in the field of design, preparation, production, interpretation, post-production and distribution of media content and products,
- knows the language of the media and narrative principles linked to the content and form of media communications,
- knows the advanced procedures and techniques used in radio and television journalism, including the principles of construction and presentation of these products,
- uses advanced methods and procedures intended for the creation of text and multimedia communications and their effective presentation, especially in the context of journalistic production,
- can carry out complex media communication research and has the ability to apply acquired knowledge and findings in such a way as to achieve an effective solution to problems in media and communication practice and the flexible use of various communication strategies,
- controls managerial and practical work in various positions in the field of preparation, production, interpretation, post-production and distribution of media contents and products (mass media, multimedia and marketing),
- can manage the company's media activities across the entire spectrum of communication channels,
- knows how to present socially relevant media content and projects, is familiar with the issue of international cooperation in the field of media and media communication, and knows the procedures that are a prerequisite for using the possibility to apply for domestic and foreign grants,
- has knowledge of the multilateral relations of the media and their legal dimensions, as well as of the societal importance of the media in relation to the development of discourse related to human rights and freedoms,
- can think critically, look at a problem from different points of view and perceive it as part of a wider social context,
- can communicate professionally with professionals from the industry and achieve an equal position in communication with the professional public and the media.
c) Additional knowledge, abilities and skills
Graduate of the master's degree of the mass media communication study program:
- can work effectively without the assistance of others, but also as a team member or manager of a team, institution,
- adheres to the ethical principles associated with the work of media professionals and participates in their creation and improvement,
- maintains contact with the latest knowledge and development trends in the field and purposefully organizes his own professional growth,
- can search for solutions to problems in creative ways and verify their effectiveness in relation to the requirements of practice,
- has developed soft skills (creativity, teamwork, proactive approach, assertiveness, empathy, etc.).
