The teaching of students in the study program of digital game theory in the first, bachelor's level of study focuses on the acquisition and development of independent professional thinking in the intentions of the key areas of the field of study media and communication studies, which serve as basic theoretical and knowledge starting points and prerequisites for the acquisition of adequate knowledge and practical skills. The teaching of students in the digital game theory study program in the first degree focuses on the development of professional and practical knowledge and skills necessary for application on the labor market in the segment of the cultural industry of digital games and in related media and communication industries. It provides a comprehensive overview in the field of media and communication studies, in the context and continuity of digital game theory.
Graduates will acquire a wide range of skills in the field of media studies, media communication, game theory, production and post-production of digital games, but also knowledge from applied scientific disciplines forming the basic theoretical framework of media and communication studies, such as psychology, ethics, marketing, cultural studies, history.
Based on them, they can critically approach media content primarily in the form of digital games, but also other gaming and related media platforms. Graduates are able to recognize and name the current direction of the cultural and game industry and digital games, they know the basic game mechanics and can apply them in game and non-game environments.
After completing the bachelor's degree, the graduate has the required theoretical knowledge and practical skills that enable him/her to apply in the media industry, media entertainment, game development and industry, but also in other areas using digital media. Graduates will acquire adequate theoretical knowledge of media communication, media culture, marketing communication and games, their current social significance and historical development, against the background of media studies and communication studies. They are able to critically interpret digital games and other media products and understand how the practical experience of gaming can be used in further creative activity. They are also able to identify the negative and positive aspects of gaming from a socio-cultural and psychological point of view. They understand the importance of game mechanics and narratives and know how they can be used in game development outside of the game industry. Graduates know the location of media and communication studies in the system of sciences, especially psychology, ethics, informatics, media linguistics and marketing, and can connect these areas not only when creating games, but also within the framework of evaluating games as part of society and designing popular culture. Each graduate knows the basics of working with the tools designed for the creation of digital games and the technological procedures necessary for the functioning of the game as a whole.
The bachelor's degree is primarily aimed at educating graduates who understand digital games as media products, are able to critically assess their impact and identify problematic phenomena in the digital space and gaming world, and understand their social consequences. They focus on certain areas of game journalism, mass media communication, media education and game media production. By choosing optional subjects, future graduates can focus more on programming for specific platforms, further, for example, graphic design, thanks to which they are able to prepare conceptual graphics, but also game assets of environments, characters and objects that have artistic and user value and can be implemented in digital outputs. . Graduates can also focus on sound and music design for digital games. Students have the opportunity to combine and connect these unique skills in the form of teamwork through regular game jams, which is a format of intensive project work aimed at creating a playable design of a digital game. A specific area of skills and experience is certainly electronic sports supporting the development of soft skills such as communication skills, teamwork, etc. Separate attention is devoted to the connection of the audience potential in the form of gaining experience with the processes related to the media and marketing level of competitive gaming.
a) Theoretical knowledge
Graduate of the first degree in digital game theory:
- He is capable of logically distinguishing the sequence of development of interpersonal, social and mass media communication tools and placing them in the relevant stages of the development of human civilization in the overall development context. overall development context.
- Has knowledge of the basic attributes and characteristics of cultures in historical retrospect,
- He is able to contextually perceive the function of the media and their importance in the overall social context.
- Identify and resist manipulative and unethical communication and its techniques.
- Can identify and interpret key digital games from the point of view of their genre or typological characteristics, as well as against the background of historical development and social events.
- Based on a wealth of theoretical knowledge about the basic elements of digital games and game principles, he is able to apply them in the framework of creative thinking both on a reflective and production level.
- He knows the sociocultural contexts of games from the point of view of ludology and understands the development and position of games in the history of cultures and mass communication.
- He/she is able to critically approach, evaluate and analyze media content, especially digital games, based on knowledge of psychology, ethics and media and cultural studies applied to the field of game studies.
- The graduate can apply the acquired theoretical knowledge for the purposes of media education, in various researches of scientific research, while being able to choose and use appropriate types of methods from the field of social sciences.
- Understands the basic legislative framework of digital media.
- It has basic prerequisites for educational activity in the framework of media education in the field of digital games.
b) Practical abilities and skills
Graduate of the first degree in digital game theory:
- He controls the graphic rules typical and necessary for the creation of assets for digital games, which he can translate into practical outputs.
- It can implement game mechanics and game narratives and other necessary means of expression of digital games into digital games.
- He knows the laws and rules of game engines needed to create digital games and knows how to use them to create a digital game.
- It controls the creation and implementation of sound and music in digital games.
