Applied Informatics (Bachelor's)
- Field of study: computer science
- Form of study: FULL-TIME or PART-TIME
- Degree of study: 1st, bachelor
- Duration of study: 3 years
- Teaching language: Slovak
A graduate of the Applied Informatics study program will receive a first-level university education in the Informatics field of study in the application domain of informatics, information systems and technologies, where, in addition to the informatics and mathematical disciplines, they will also acquire knowledge of selected economic sciences and management. A graduate of the study program, whether in full-time or part-time form, knows how to classify knowledge, draw conclusions and connections between them, and use them practically. The graduate acquires the above-mentioned knowledge within the framework of compulsory subjects. The graduate will acquire basic theoretical-methodological and application knowledge, as well as practical skills from informatics, which includes units such as computer architecture, operating systems, algorithmization, programming, information security, computer networks, and will be able to use them in the implementation of systems based on is a computer.
He will also gain knowledge of the basics of system modeling, the basics of data collection, processing and transmission in information systems and computer applications, as well as in the area of graphic processing and data visualization. He will acquire the basic skills of effective work with information of various kinds and from various sources. Selected compulsory electives belonging to the entire field of informatics together with applications to the relevant field will enable students to master the methods, techniques and means of designing information systems. In addition, the graduate will acquire practical abilities and skills to use the acquired knowledge effectively in the development, applications and implementation of informatics methods and resources, especially in the chosen application area.
The graduate knows the processes and methods of implementing and operating information security and will be able to work effectively as a team member, present technical problems with solutions, and will be aware of the social, moral, legal and economic context of his profession and the consequences of deploying information technology.
Learning objectives and graduate profile
The Applied Informatics study program focuses on principles, methods and tools for software application development, software application development technologies, graphical data processing and data visualization in the natural sciences. The student will receive a higher education in informatics disciplines enriched with mathematics and selected natural science disciplines, but also in economic and legal areas related to informatics and will understand information security and the requirements of industrial, scientific research and service institutions.
The Applied Informatics study program is designed so that the student gains experience in all areas of informatics:
- from the design and development of algorithms, through web development
- operating system design
- networking
- mobile applications
- knowledge of programming languages and database systems
- to computational intelligence using neural networks or data mining, and a number of other areas.
In addition, it offers specifically focused, skill-based courses that will help students improve their skills in programming, web development, smart games and multimedia, graphics and e-learning systems, database querying and MS Windows, Linux and macOS operating systems. In the case of excellent academic results, students are supported by a scholarship and also involvement in research.
Graduates of the bachelor's study program Applied Informatics are employed in all areas of society. The TOP industries in terms of employment in which graduates work include: information and communication, industrial production, transport and storage, wholesale and retail trade. The TOP jobs for graduates from the point of view of application include professions such as application programmers, system analysts, software developers, specialists in the field of databases and computer networks. 46% of graduates of the applied informatics bachelor's study program continue their university studies at the 2nd degree in the field of informatics or one of the related fields.
