Environmental Engineering (Engineer's)
- Field of Study: ecological and environmental sciences
- Form of study: FULL-TIME
- Degree of study: 2nd, Engineer's
- Duration of study: 2 years
- Teaching language: Slovak
The graduate of the Engineering (Eng.) study programme Environmental Engineering directly following the Bachelor's study programme Environmental Protection and Restoration will acquire the following theoretical knowledge, skills and competences:
-
adequate theoretical knowledge in the field of physical, chemical and biological processes and interpretation of the laws of these processes taking place in various technological operations and plants, the laws of these processes taking place in various technological operations and plants, material and energy balances, as well as modelling of the movement of substances in the individual components of the environment;
-
knowledge and skills in the mastery of the principles of perception of environmental stimuli by simple and more complex organisms;
-
Skills in laboratory techniques and methods in the areas of study of Environmental Engineering;
-
the ability to use the knowledge acquired creatively in applied research and production practice;
-
the ability and competence to design, implement and apply methods and means in solving environmental pollution problems, as well as to manage processes rationally and efficiently and to define the most optimal characteristics of the equipment and systems in which the processes take place;
-
the ability to carry out independent scientific research in the field of chemical, biochemical, environmental and safety engineering;
-
computer skills in the use of commercial software applied to the acquisition and statistical or spatial (GIS) processing of data related to environmental assessment, the planning of experiments and the processing and presentation of results, as well as the ability to partially use programming methods;
-
ability and competence in the practical application of acquired knowledge and skills in a wide range of activities including measurement and monitoring of analytical characteristics of individual environmental components, application of (bio)remediation (remediation) technologies, environmental consultancy in a wide range of institutions, including the business sector, work in teams carrying out exploration and research activities in the protection and restoration of the environment;
-
Adaptability to increasing and changing demands of practice, including addressing their continuing education by pursuing a third level of undergraduate study, in a wide range of environmental engineering and chemical technology degree programmes.
Learning objective:
To provide advanced knowledge of the impacts of physicochemical and anthropogenic factors on the environment, to acquire knowledge and skills for detecting and monitoring their impacts, to acquire flexible and comprehensive competences for assessing the quality of the environment, or for identifying and implementing possible solutions for its remediation.
The graduate of the study programme Environmental Engineering has the prerequisites :
-
to apply in various environmental and remediation facilities of control, operational and research orientation and to perform more demanding work, especially of a technical nature (e.g. in wastewater treatment plants, at the workplaces of the Slovak Environmental Inspection, at the workplaces of the Public Health Office)
-
to work in state and public administration as a worker in the field of environmental informatics and environmental legislation (e.g. at district and regional environmental offices, at the Environmental Fund)
-
to work in the private sector in companies focused on the development of environmental technologies and their application in environmental protection, raw materials processing or bioenergy production
-
to work as a scientific researcher at universities and research institutes
-
to work as a corporate ecologist - in environmental consultancy, especially for the manufacturing sector
-
to apply as a teacher in educational institutions after completing the pedagogical minimum (e.g. at the Faculty of Arts of the UCM in Trnava)
-
to pursue 3rd cycle of higher education in Environmental Engineering or related fields
Conditions of admission for the DAY form of study.
Number of students admitted to the study programme: 20
The basic condition for admission to the bachelor's programme is the acquisition of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education (Section 56(1) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts).
The admission procedure takes place without an entrance examination.
The admission to the engineering study programme takes into account the fact whether the applicant has completed a study programme at the Faculty of Physical Education at the UCM in Trnava or at another university of a related field of study. In the case of applicants from other faculties and having completed a bachelor's degree in a related field, the composition of the courses taken in the first cycle of study is also assessed.
