Management in Tourism and Hospitality (Bachelor's)

A graduate of the Management in Tourism and Hospitality study program after the first degree of study has knowledge of the field of management in the context of the focus of the program and the relevant field. He has knowledge of current trends in tourism and the hotel industry and he knows the necessary terminology (at least in one world language). After completing the studies, the graduate can manage his/her own decisions, plans and projects, as well as teams, or larger internal organizational units, while fulfilling the strategic, tactical and operational goals and plans of the tourism organization. The student is able to apply the individual practical skills of a manager, such as open communication, time management of himself and others, effectively motivating employees, managing innovations, managing the organization socially responsibly, working in an intercultural environment, continuing education, etc. He has knowledge in the field of human resources management and can apply the individual functions of human resources management in practice and use them to fulfill the goals of the organization, while both the goals of the organization and the individual are respected.
After completing the first degree, the student can also independently use research methods, procedures and tools (quantitative and qualitative research methods, such as regionalization methods, cartographic methods...), but also secondary information and data obtained from external sources (Development Strategy tourism 2020, statistics of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic focused on the level of tourism in the Slovak Republic, Trexima, Profesia, Hay group, European Travel Commission, UNWTO ...) and evaluate the operation of the tourism organization and its components in the established context. According to the above, he knows how to identify and analyze management and material opportunities and threats in the field of tourism and hotel industry, propose and implement practical solutions with a positive economic result. The student also has knowledge in the field of human resources management, marketing, organizing events and projects, economics, accounting, statistics and informatics, which he can apply in the business sphere, in public institutions and also in the non-governmental and business sector, in the service industry in the field of tourism and hotel industry.
A graduate of the Management in Tourism and Hospitality study program after the first degree of study will gain a broad-spectrum view of the field of management in tourism and the hotel industry in the interaction of all stakeholders and other factors entering the market and will be able to actively integrate into business in the given area as an entrepreneur of a small company or non-profit organization, or in a middle management position.
Education goals:
I. Knowledge
The graduate is oriented in the scientific field of economics and management and in the basic terminology related to it. He knows the most important scientific approaches and the latest current trends in economics and management. As part of the study, he will acquire a basic conceptual apparatus from the issue of human resource management in organizations in the context of their size, focus and tools. He also has knowledge of macroeconomics and microeconomics. He knows the most important directions of economic thinking and can explain the individual instruments of the state's monetary and fiscal policy. He can explain the basic principles of the functioning of the economy as a whole and interpret the relationships between the most important macroeconomic quantities. Can identify profit-maximizing production levels using cost and revenue curves and can explain the factors causing changes in supply and demand and can explain the issue of price regulation in a market economy.
Distinguishes between different concepts of total, average and marginal costs, can distinguish between total and marginal revenue.The graduate knows how businesses and tourism organizations determine the price and what resources they will use to provide services. He also knows the most available options for financing innovations in the tourism industry and the latest trends in the creation of tourism products.
It can define the necessity of the innovation process and also characterize innovations in tourism destinations. The graduate knows how to define and work with information technologies used in tourism. Graduates of the study program have knowledge of tourism and the hotel industry, understand their role and importance for the development of the national and world economy, and understand the services in the tourism and hotel industry with regard to the multicultural environment in the EU. He is knowledgeable about the legislative aspects of tourism and hospitality. From the field of law, he has mastered the key terminology necessary for understanding the functioning of the system of public and private law. The graduate has knowledge of national and major world gastronomy, trends in connection with development in the field of catering, hotel industry and tourism. He is also familiar with the basic theoretical and methodological starting points for the geography of tourism, acquired knowledge regarding the history of the geography of tourism, functions and selective, localization and implementation assumptions aimed at the delimitation and typology of potentials for all aspects of national and international tourism.
The graduate will become familiar with the basic characteristics of consumer markets and the purchasing behavior model of a tourism organization, the graduate will be informed about the structure of the marketing and communication mix in the tourism and hotel industry, the generally applicable principles of international marketing and the application of marketing audit processes will be explained to him in practice, he will acquire knowledge about ethics in marketing and the relationship of marketing towards human society. The graduate is also familiar with the mechanism of a sustainable approach to business in the field of tourism and hotel industry and perceives the tourism product from the point of view of its sustainable development. Last but not least, the graduate gained specific knowledge during his/her studies from the determination, planning and implementation of a smaller scale project, the difficulty of which corresponds to the level of knowledge, knowledge and skills in the first degree of study.
II. Skills
- The graduate can apply the acquired knowledge and skills to the development of assignments and semester projects on the chosen topic.
- The graduate is able to use the basic methods and techniques of planning, organizing and leading people and control. The graduate understands the meaning and usefulness of law as a set of rules of conduct without which life in society would be unthinkable, and without which society and the state would collapse.
- The graduate is able to use the tools of individual functions of human resources management in specific conditions and is able to apply basic knowledge when analyzing current issues in the field of human resources management.
- The graduate can perform basic macroeconomic calculations in practice. It is able to independently calculate basic macro indicators.
- The graduate knows the methodologies for comparing the success of economic policy and can analyze the possibilities of the future development of the economy.
- The graduate can independently evaluate the potential of tourism in the given region, or destination, and is able to formulate relevant conclusions regarding the strengths and weaknesses of the territory in question from the point of view of the potential of localization, selective and implementation assumptions of tourism.
- The graduate can apply the basic principles of sustainable tourism and sustainable tourism development in practice.
- The graduate is able to formulate recommendations for tourism businesses that seek to improve their business through innovation and thus increase the number of visitors and tourists in the given region.
- The graduate is able to independently evaluate the necessities of the innovation process and can clearly define the main features of tourism innovation.
- The graduate can apply the basic principles of sustainability in the tourism industry, is able to apply them in accommodation services, can use methods and techniques of saving electricity and thermal energy, water, initiate measures for their saving and ecological restoration, introduce a system of economical waste management in tourism equipment and use smart technologies.
- The graduate is able to independently evaluate the basic problems of introducing the ecological functioning of the company, is able to formulate relevant conclusions in the area of sustainability, as well as apply basic knowledge when analyzing current issues, learns the causes of climate change in the world and their expected consequences for tourism.
- The graduate is able to carry out analyzes of the basic processes of the marketing environment and the purchasing behavior of consumers on the market, end consumers, organizations and governments.
- The graduate is able to apply skills when deciding on the marketing tools of a tourism company.
- The graduate can constructively plan the implementation of a project (event) focused on the field of tourism on a smaller scale, including defining all resources and planning a specific program.
- The graduate can independently create an animation activity. It can adapt the animation activity according to the user's age in the context of motor skills and the cognitive stage of personality development. He/she is also able to evaluate the time, material and financial resources needed to implement the animation activity.
- The graduate can solve partial parts of the project, but also comprehensively process all documents and then apply them during the actual implementation.

Admission requirements for Full-time and Part-time Study.
Currently, there are no entrance exams. The evaluation committee will assess results from individual years in the following subjects (if you are still preparing for your final exams):
- Management in Tourism and Hospitality:
Slovak Language and Literature, History (or equivalent subject), Economics (or equivalent subject), Foreign Language.
If you completed your final exams under the old regulations, we will consider:

- CV / biography
- achievements during high school studies (e.g. placement at district, regional and national Olympiads and competitions)
- confirmation of the payment made, in the case of electronic payment (bank transfer), the applicant uploads a confirmation of the payment made, not of the movement on the bank account, in the application appendices,
- verified education documents:
- The applicant, who will graduate in 2024, will enter in the electronic application a list of grades (from the electronic student book) for the 1st to 3rd year (4-year study), or for the 2nd to 4th year (5-year study). In the event that the grade report cannot be uploaded or the applicant does not upload it correctly, he/she will deliver certified copies of the high school certificates from these years (or by a notary or registrar) to the IM study officer (by mail or in person). The applicant will deliver a certified copy of the certificate (by a notary or registrar) from the last year of high school and a certified copy of the high school graduation certificate to the IM study officer (by post or in person), immediately after the high school graduation exam, no later than August 20, 2024.
- An applicant who graduated before 2024 must deliver to the IM study officer (in person or by mail) certified copies (by a notary or a registry office) of the report cards for the 1st to 4th year (4-year study), respectively. for the 2nd to 5th year (5-year study), together with the school-leaving certificate by August 20, 2024.
