Transfer of Knowledge and Technology into Practice

Transfer of Knowledge and Technology into Practice

The university recognizes the need to create suitable conditions for transferring the knowledge acquired by its students, given the current focus on transferring commercially generated results from academic research into economic and social practice.

UCM strives to initiate and support connections and collaborations with other universities, research institutions, and potential users. One form of support is the establishment of a department for coordinating the transfer of knowledge and technology. This department's mission is to identify research with potential commercial applications, collaborate on intellectual property protection, and support the development of strategies for its utilization or commercialization.

Department Activities Include:

  • Searching for, mediating, and providing information on relevant educational opportunities for UCM staff in the areas of intellectual property protection and technology transfer.
  • Monitoring UCM organizational units to identify potential intellectual property subjects (e.g., copyrights, artistic performances, audio and audiovisual recordings, broadcasting, databases, etc.), industrial property rights subjects (e.g., patents for inventions, utility models, designs, new plant varieties, trademarks, product origin designations, geographical indications, etc.), and results leading to the creation of improvement proposals, know-how, logos, new methods of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, and similar.
  • Mediating the use of relevant resources and support projects and programs outside UCM to support or directly implement technology transfer, and ensuring the formal aspects of their use.
  • Providing advice and consultations on intellectual property protection and knowledge transfer to UCM employees and students upon request.
  • Supporting the formal aspects of the technology transfer process and maintaining related records.
  • Mediating and providing information on relevant calls in the area of technology transfer.
  • Proposing and ensuring active marketing of commercially interesting intellectual or industrial property subjects.
  • Building long-term relationships and contacts with practice and social institutions to accelerate the transfer of scientific and research knowledge into practice.
  • Collaborating and communicating with the Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic, the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information, and other relevant institutions in the field.
